This isn’t what I expected, and it works for specific scenarios, but it’s also a pain to set up and remove for storage at night. It’s made of the same material like a sunshade you would put in the window of the car, and uses the same “twist and fold” principle as a sunshade if you want to store it flat, but there is no way I can find to KEEP it flat, so I had to use my own separate rubber band for that. The thing I’m having the most trouble with is that I use a small magnetic phone holder in the car – the magnet is strong, but the only way I can attach the shade behind the phone is to literally hope the magnet will keep it in place. My phone has fallen a couple times with the shade behind it (it’s rare that it falls without the shade), but hard to say if it’s the extra layer of material making the magnetic hold weaker or if it was the bump I hit. The shade material is really thin, so I can’t imagine it makes that much of a difference to the magnet. As for shade from the sun, it definitely works if the sun is coming in and hitting the screen at a side angle. I can see the screen better in those situations. However, I have one of those privacy screens on my phone and it’s reflective, so this does NOT help when the sun is hitting my chest from the front, and the phone is acting like a mirror because of the privacy screen, which means it’s difficult to see the nav app. I don’t think there’s any help for that, actually, other than to remove the privacy screen. This will also NOT keep your phone cooler from sun coming in the window – in fact, I think it probably makes the phone hotter because of the enclosed space. Fortunately I live in an area that heat on the dash isn’t much of a problem, but I can see where that would be of greater concern in some southern states. I guess whether this works or not depends on the situations you’re trying to use it in.
