Gerber Downwind Caper Knife, Fixed Blade, Olive Green
$ 8.85
The fit of the lanyard hole and mid-tang pin looks great, but the fit on the large front pin behind the quillon is sloppy: the hole on both sides of the scales doesn’t meet tightly around the pin, leaving a 1 – 2 mm gap where blood, dirt, and other filth will collect and be impossible to wash out. The blade is sharp right from the factory. The blade has visible grind marks (would have been nice if they were polished out). The choil is large enough to accommodate gloved fingers, but in the process of flat grinding the blade, half of the choil was left with a rough 90 degree edge. Had Gerber followed up the flat grind by adding a small bevel (or even buffing) around the choil, it would be more comfortable. Would have rated this knife at least 3 stars, but the poor craftsmanship around the front pin really is unforgivable on a skinning knife.
